L’Alternativa 2007
14th Barcelona Independent Film Festival
Audiovisuals + Festivals
The Festival is an annual meeting point for spectators and professionals keeping tabs on independent film. Now in its 14th year, it includes 300 films in the Official and Parallel sections and on the Screen in the Foyer. Accompanying activities include a subtitling and self-description workshop, an animation master class with Paul Bush and a cinema-concert with JAZZ El DESTRIPADOR and Dziga Vertov's "man with the movie camera".
The four official competition sections of the Festival (Short films, Animation, Full-length features and Documentary) give visitors the chance to see 65 films selected from some 2000 submitted works.
The Parallel sections, outside the competition, combine sections devoted to the work of the youngest creators (Film Schools of the World), with retrospective sections and tributes to key directors in the history of the cinema (Peter Brook, an iconoclastic creator; Don Askarian: Ararat-14 Views), a programme of little-known cinematographies (Young Mexican Cinema), individual creators (Paul Bush), the short film scene in Spain and Germany (Versión Española and No Se Quedan Cortos prizes), and reportage documentary. Memory and social and historic commitment are the themes of the Synergies of History section, this year devoted to the Ukamau Group.
The festival also offers Screen in the Foyer, a space for screenings and live performances, presentations etc., and Parallel activities such as seminars, round tables, workshops and concerts. Plus the presentation of the Independent Film Network (IFN), an Internet portal that allows the independent film community world wide to exchange information and programming.
