AI: Artificial Intelligence
Frank Pasquale and Xavier Nueno
A legal revolution
Debate
Legal expert Frank Pasquale and the writer Xavier Nueno discuss the legal dimension of artificial intelligence.
Seventy years after Isaac Asimov popularised the laws of robotics, Cornell University professor Frank Pasquale, an artificial intelligence law and policy expert, has updated them in his book New laws of robotics: Defending human expertise in the age of AI (Harvard University Press, 2020 – in Spanish, Las nuevas leyes de la robótica, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2024). With his lengthy research career, Frank Pasquale is one of the world’s leading authorities on law and technology. In this session, he speaks with writer and researcher Xavier Nueno about how law and regulation intervene in the control of drones, self-driving cars, medical algorithms for treatment and diagnostic testing, and ChatGPT. The philosophical, social, and cultural revolutions require a legal revolution.
