Devotional Cinema I. Jerome Hiler and Nathaniel Dorsky
Audiovisuals
Nathaniel Dorsky and his partner, Jerome Hiler, make silent films that intimately and boldly celebrate a poetics of the perception of everyday experience, each creating a personal language of open confidences. Only recently shown, Hiler’s works establish a singular relation with the forms and textures of his surroundings. In Words of Mercury, a study of variations of superposition creates a series of images of spectral, hypnotic depth. Immersed in a world of film since his childhood, Dorsky has become one of the masters of US cinema. Hours for Jerome, one of his early works, is a home movie based on a slow, deeply felt observation of the world, in the course of a four-season cycle capturing moments in the daily life of the filmmaker and his partner.
