DEL ÉXTASIS AL ARREBATO

Session 1. DOCUMENTS / ITINERARIES

Audiovisuals

The cycle’s first session opens with a work by José Val del Omar, a visionary filmmaker and inventor, and one of the foremost figures to have been produced by Spanish cinematography. Fuego en Castilla forms part of his unfinished “Tríptico elemental de España”. Other filmmakers in the session are the architect Gabriel Blanco, who is best known as an animator but is represented here by a documentary about the concerns of Spanish citizens on a Sunday in the city periphery; the multidisciplinary artists Benet Rossell and Antoni Miralda, who chart a journey through the iconography of war; and José Luis Guerín, who, after debuting with the feature Los motivos de Berta (1983), made this short film with reminiscences of art-house cinema. The session closes with a documentary by Virginia García del Pino about the working identity of people involved in professions related to death, dirt and sex.
