Conversation with Patrick Radden Keefe and Mònica Terribas
The work of a journalist
Debate
In this session, the writer and journalist Patrick Radden Keefe, celebrated author of Say Nothing and Empire of Pain, will talk with Mònica Terribas about the work of investigative journalists in a world that has been transformed by new information technologies.
At a time when the digital ecosystem and the financial crisis have transformed how we understand journalism, what role does investigative journalism play? What challenges and changes is the journalistic profession faced with today? Patrick Radden Keefe, a writer for the New Yorker and winner of many awards, has become a point of reference for contemporary investigative journalism. His work follows in the footsteps of classic narrative journalism, based on an exhaustive process of documentation and a careful narrative strategy. The publication of Say Nothing (Doubleday 2019), one of the best recent chronicles of the conflict in Northern Ireland, made him internationally known and it became one of the most celebrated non-fiction books in recent years. His latest book, based on more than three years of research, is Empire of Pain (Periscopi and Reservoir Books 2021), an account of the Sackler dynasty, owners of the family pharmaceutical company that created the drug that fuelled the opioid crisis in the United States.
