The journalist Javier Borràs and the researchers Irene Masdeu Torruella, Xavier Ortells and Maialen Marín speak about China’s evolution in recent years, its present, and the future we share with it.
Today’s China faces challenges that are not unknown to the rest of the world. Its position in the war between Russia and Ukraine and its stance on the future of Taiwan are uncertainties that fully affect the global state of play. Management of the zero-COVID policy and the consolidation of Xi Jinping’s power after the Twentieth National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party coincide with incipient displays of social discontent against a background marked by economic crisis and problems of the international logistics chain. The social credit system and technological surveillance that are applied in certain areas of China are inscribed in global capitalism’s algorithmic system of governance.
