Chagas, un mal escondido

'Chagas' disease originates in poor rural areas; it is caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite that is carried by reduviid insects, and can be transmitted by means of blood transfusions, organs donated by people who are infected and congenitally from mother to child.

Chagas disease is a silent illness that is kept that way, known as ‘the AIDS of poverty'. This documentary speaks for the people who suffer from the disease and those who are working to find a cure to this illness that affects 20 million people in Latin America and the United States, but is practically unknown to the general public.
