The writer and president of PEN International Burhan Sönmez will speak with Simona Škrabec on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Catalan PEN and coinciding with the publication in Catalan of his fourth novel Labyrinth.

Burhan Sönmez, is lawyer and specialist in human rights. His work has been published in more than forty languages and his career as a writer, marked by persecution and exile, is exemplary in its commitment to the struggle for freedom of expression. His fourth novel, Labyrinth (published in Catalan and Spanish by Periscopi and Minúscula, 2022) is about the meanings of memory and human strength and power.

In this conversation, coinciding with the hundredth anniversary celebrations of Catalan PEN, Burhan Sönmez and Simona Škrabec will also speak about the work of PEN in protecting persecuted writers.

This conversation is part of the Sant Jordi Dialogues, a project of Biblioteques de Barcelona (Barcelona Libraries) which has the support of Barcelona City of Literature, the CCCB, and Catalan PEN.
