«Machines That Think: Opportunities and Dilemmas of Artificial Intelligence» is the sixth of the ICREA-CCCB Debates, a stable working relationship aimed at informing the wider public about the advances being made in high-level research in Catalonia and the challenges it faces.
What is artificial intelligence? For some time now, medical diagnosis and Internet search engines have used thinking machines capable of deep learning and processing massive data flows. But research into artificial intelligence also has its risks, especially if we lose control over decision making or if we let the military industry take charge of technological developments. What are the opportunities and limits of intelligent machines? How much can we trust robots?
Luc Steels, ICREA Professor at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology (CSIC) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).
