AI and Music S+T+ARTS Festival
Synergies of musical creation and artificial intelligence
Festivals + Music
On 27 and 28 October in Barcelona, Sónar is launching the first AI and Music festival, dedicated to the applications and challenges of artificial intelligence in the field of musical creation. The CCCB is one of the festival’s venues, and on 28 October it will be hosting a series of performances, video capsules and conferences, both in its physical spaces and online.
Artificial intelligence is fast becoming the digital backbone of our lives, with an impact on all aspects of entertainment, culture and communication. The AI and Music S+T+ARTS Festival will bring together creatives, engineers and scientists to explore and demonstrate the creative potential of these new technologies in the field of music. With a varied programme of both live performances and remote performances commissioned specifically for the festival, it also includes a programme of talks, debates and hackathons.
On the second day of the festival, Thursday 28 October, the CCCB will be hosting live performances with a line-up that includes Holly Herndon, Mouse on Mars, Nabihah Iqbal and Libby Heaney, Hamill Industries and Kiani de la Vall, Rob Clouth, Reiko Yamada, Franz Rosati and BotBop; a series of exclusive remote performances by artists YACHT, LP Duo, Human Brother and Hexorcismos, and a full programme of talks to explore the ins and outs of AI, with artists and experts such as Korai Tahiroglu, Agoria, Douglas Eck, Libby Heaney, Rebecca Fiebrink, Shelly Knotts, Jan St Werner and Nabihah Iqbal. All the activities can be followed via streaming on the festival website.
Aside from the CCCB programme, the festival will include the opening concert “Marco Mezquida Piano+AI” at L’Auditori on Wednesday 27 October; two hackathons at UPC-BarcelonaTech on 23 and 24 October; and a Thinking Lab for exchanging experiences in relation to AI and music.
Co-organised by Sónar, UPC-BarcelonaTech and the television channel betevé, the festival comes within the framework of the S+T+ARTS initiative by the European Commission, dedicated to connecting technology with art.
