Metamorphosis
Fantasy Visions in Starewitch, Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers
La Casa Encendida
After great audience and press success in Barcelona, the exhibition "Metamorphosis. Fantastic Visions in Starewitch, Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers" is presented in La Casa Encendida, in Madrid, from October 2, 2014 to January 11, 2015.
The show, a co-production of the CCCB and La Casa Encendida, aims to rediscover and awaken curiosity towards a group of artists who, for its radicalism, imagination and own positioning, it is pertinent to re-read in the context of the cultural present and contextualize their subversive potential.
In Madrid the Metamorphosis' experience (the exhibition and its parallel activities) promotes reflection on curiosity / knowledge duality and on the new role of the marginalized in contemporary creation.
In the same way as was done in Barcelona, La Casa Encendida offers a tour through the city museums and its collections. The first proposal is the National Museum of Natural History, where film clips by Ladislas Starewitch in the company of some star animals appearing on them can be watched. Fond of entomology, it was this passion that led him to film in an attempt to give life and expression to the dissected insects he studied. The second proposal is the Lázaro Galdiano Museum where we can find, from October 22, a selection of the jewels of its collection related to the Jan Švankmajer surrealist world.
