City Symphonies

Taking as its reference the "city symphonies" of the early 20th century and other films in their wake, the aim of City Symphonies is to observe and analyse urban space through the personal gaze of a range of filmmakers, thereby creating a collection of audiovisual works that bear witness to the cities of the early 21st century. Approached like a diary in the first person, the resulting films show highly varied (and even contradictory) perceptions of the modern-day metropolis, reflecting on everyday life in the city as well as highlighting the tensions between the outskirts and the centre, the urban and the rural spheres.

City Symphonies is an audiovisual creation project produced by the CCCB, working in collaboration with the professional collective Dones Visuals and with government support from the province of Barcelona. The selection of works includes both established and emerging filmmakers. All the films premiere at the D'A - Barcelona Film Festival before going on to tour various festivals and cultural centres.
