Joan Duran i Ferrer
The career of the poet Joan Duran i Ferrer combines writing and science. With a PhD in Biochemistry, he has published ten collections of poems, including Nua cendra (Naked Ash, Tres i Quatre, 2020), winner of the Vicent Andrés Estellés Prize, and Extrema llum (Extreme Light, Pagès editors, 2014), which received the Renet Ribas Poetry Collection award. His most recent book is the novel Galop de sang (Blood Gallop, Tres i Quatre, 2024), winner of the Andròmina Prize for Fiction. Duran combines writing literature with teaching at the University of Barcelona, and his work in the field of communication and scientific culture at the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute. He is also codirector of the Sitges Poetry Festival, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Catalan Biology Society (Institute of Catalan Studies, IEC).
Joan Duran i Ferrer is the curator of the poetic residency programme Magmas within Radical Science project.
