Eugenio Coccia

Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE)

Eugenio Coccia, an expert in astroparticle physics has researched in the field of study and detection of gravitational waves, and also in developing very low temperature techniques for fundamental physics experiments. Since 2022 he has been director of the Institute of High Energy Physics, Barcelona. He has a degree in Physics from the Sapienza University of Rome, where he was part of the Edoardo Amaldi group, and spent several periods of research activity at CERN, the Kamerlingh Onnes Laboratory in Leiden, and the National Laboratory of Frascati in the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). He has taught Physics at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, and has been director of the INFN Gran Sasso Laboratory, as well as founding director of the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI). He is a member of the European Academy and the European Physical Society.
