Xesca Salvà
Set designer, artist and educator
Xesca Salvà Llucmajor (Mallorca, 1978)
Graduated in set design from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona in 2014. Since 2010 she has designed sets, characters and lighting for theatre, dance and circus projects for companies such as Leandre, La Ruta 40, Lali Ayguadé and Manu Rodríguez on productions at the Teatre Principal de Palma and the Teatre Lliure, among others.
Xesca Salvà and Clara Manyós directed Frank, a show about Franco suitable for all audiences at the Teatre Lliure during the 2020–2021 season.
Alongside her work as a set designer, she also writes her own stage pieces, including Cases (Festival TNT, 2017, and Festival Grec, 2019), a multi-layered work on intimacy, play and memories based on objects, sounds and interactivity, and the documentary Cases kids, a version for children aged 9 to 12. In 2022 she was artist-in-residence together with Marc Villanueva Mir at the Teatre Lliure, where they presented their project Understory, on life and cooperation between organisms.
At Culturnautes 2023 she has teamed up with Maria Magdalena Garzón, an educator and dance creator who does creative research and designs projects on the body, and Marc Villanueva Mir, playwright and creator of projects that use contemporary art languages to offer critiques of political issues.
