Xavier Monteys

One of the fundamental thinkers in the urban field in Barcelona, Monteys is a professor of Architectural Design at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, where he is also the coordinator of the Master’s degree in Theory and Practice of Urban and Building Design. He also teaches at the University of Girona and in the Urban Renewal Programme at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He leads the “ReHabitar” research group, a project that rereads architectural designs from the past to highlight their innovative and complementary character from the perspective of contemporary architecture. Work from this research project has been shown in an exhibition at La Arquería de Nuevos Ministerios in Madrid and has been published in the compilation Rehabitar en nueve episodios (2012). As a professional, his notable work includes a collaboration with the project to convert the old Meridiana dog racing track in Barcelona into an art centre. He has published work in specialised publications and is a contributor to the magazine Quaderns d’arquitectura i urbanisme with the section “Domèstica”. He also writes a biweekly architectural criticism column for the “Quadern” published by the newspaper El País – Cataluña.
