Valentina Alvarado Matos

Valentina Alvarado Matos (1986, Maracaibo) is an artist who focuses on collage, seen as a vessel that contains many forms, such as paper, film, ceramics and a range of media. She perceives image and its materiality from a perspective that revolves around identity in the diaspora, landscape and gesture. Her work has been shown at Viennale, International Film Festival Rotterdam, L'Alternativa, Oberhausen, Festival Punto de Vista, Ambulante, Xcèntric, San Francisco Cinemateque, S8 Mostra Cine Periférico, Loop Festival, Cinemateca Madrid, Filmoteca de Catalunya, Microscope Gallery, Los Angeles Film Forum-2220 Arts, Conde Duque Madrid, Salzburger Kunstverein, Fabra i Coats and Arts Santa Mònica, among others.

She's been an artist-in-residence at Hangar, La Escocesa, Cultura Resident-Museo de Bellas Artes de Castellón, Fora de Camp, The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto and Matadero Madrid. Some of her films form part of the catalogue of the distribution company Light Cone as well as the Xcèntric Archive.

In February 2024 she has inaugurated exhibitions with Carlos Vásquez Méndez at La Capella and La Virreina Centro de la Imagen.
