Umut Özkirimli

Senior research associate at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) and visiting professor at IBEI (Barcelona Institute for International Studies) and Ramon Llull University. He has been associated with Istanbul University, Istanbul Bilgi University and Lund University (Sweden) in the fields of International Relations and Contemporary Turkish Studies. He is the author of, among others, Theories of Nationalism: a Critical Introduction (Palgrave Macmillan, 2000), and Contemporary Debates on Nationalism: A Critical Engagement (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005), where he discusses the key issues in the study of nationalism in the contemporary world. He is also editor of The Making of a Protest Movement in Turkey: #occupygezi (Palgrave Pivot, 2014). His books have been translated into several languages, including Turkish, Greek, Arabic, Persian, Albanian and Chinese. He had recently published Cancelled: The Left Way Back from Woke (Polity Press, 2023).
