Umut Özkirimli

He received his PhD from Istanbul University and has lectured in the Department of International Relations at Istanbul Bilgi University and in Contemporary Turkish Studies at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University in Sweden. He is currently a senior research associate at CIDOB (Barcelona Centre for International Affairs) and a visiting professor at IBEI (Barcelona Institute for International Studies) and Ramon Llull University. He is the author of, among others, Theories of Nationalism: a Critical Introduction (Palgrave Macmillan, 2000), and Contemporary Debates on Nationalism: A Critical Engagement (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005), where he discusses the key issues in the study of nationalism in the contemporary world. He is also editor of The Making of a Protest Movement in Turkey: #occupygezi (Palgrave Pivot, 2014). His books have been translated into several languages, including Turkish, Greek, Arabic, Persian, Albanian and Chinese.
