Thiat
A rapper, Thiat is a member of the duo Keur Gui and a founding member of Y’en a Marre (Fed Up), a Senegalese group of rappers and journalists founded in 2011 to protest against the government and encourage young people to vote, and also credited with having mobilised the vote of the youngest sector of Senegal’s population in 2011 and thus ousting president Abdoulaye Wade, who led the country from 2000 to 2012. Thiat is one of the most visible members and a mainstay in the shaping and expansion of Y’en a Marre, which is notable for its non-violent activism founded in culture and music as ways of consciousness-raising among, and mobilising social groups that are rarely listened to.
