Teun A. van Dijk

Professor of Discourse Studies in the Department of Translation and Language Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona, his research is focused on analysis of the reproduction of racism in discourse and the relations between discourse, knowledge and context. Prior to this, he was Professor of Discourse Studies at the University of Amsterdam and he has been visiting professor at different universities of Europe and Latin America, for example the Catholic University of Valparaíso in Chile. He is founder and director of a number of specialist reviews on the international scale, these including Text, Discourse & Society, Discourse Studies and Discourse & Communication. Notable among his recently-published books are Racismo y discurso en América Latina (Racism and Discourse in Latin America, Gedisa, 2007) and Society and Discourse. How Context Controls Text and Talk (Cambridge University Press, 2009).
