Steven Forti
A historian, journalist, and lecturer in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), his main research areas are the study of fascism, nationalism, and the far right in the contemporary era. He is author of several books including Extrema derecha 2.0: Qué es y cómo combatirla (Far Right 2.0: What It Is and How to Combat It, Siglo XXI, 2021) and, with Francisco Veiga, Carlos González-Villa, and Alfredo Sasso, Patriotas indignados (Indignant Patriots, Alianza, 2019). He is also editor of Mitos y cuentos de la extrema derecha (Far Right Myths and Stories, La Catarata, 2023), and coauthor, with Enric Ucelay-Da Cal, and Arnau Gonzàlez i Vilalta, of El proceso separatista en Cataluña (The Separatist Process in Catalonia, Comares, 2017). He was awarded the Joana de Vega Chair Prize for his PhD thesis, which explores the shift in Italy, France, and Spain of leftwing political leaders to fascism. He is an editorial board member of the publications CTXT and Política & Prosa and writes for several other publications in the domain of contemporary history, as well as articles in political and cultural media outlets. He is a member of several research networks including the Centre of Dictatorships and Democracies Studies (CEDID-UAB) and the Research Network for the Study of Fascisms, Authoritarianisms, Totalitarianisms, and Transitions to Democracy (REFAT). He is currently local head researcher of the European project “Analysis of and Responses to Extremist Narratives” and also of “La derecha en la España democrática (1977-1996). Moreover, he is director of the podcast Zibaldone (Miscellany) on Ràdio Contrabanda.
