Sofia Tipaldou
A political scientist, she researches in the areas of nationalism, populism, social movements, and the far right in post-communist countries and the European Union, especially in Russia and Greece. In the project “Russian Nationalism and the Ukraine Crisis: The Impact of Nationalist Actors on Russian Foreign Policy” (RUSNAT), which has a Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant, she has analysed the way in which nationalist and far right movements in Russia have influenced discourse and the country’s foreign policy. Moreover, she has published articles in academic journals including Europe-Asia Studies, Demokratizatsiya and Revista CIDOB d’Afers Internacionals. She is currently working at the Panteion University, Athens, and also at the University of Manchester on the project “Viro-Populism: How Far-Right Populists Spread Fake-News on COVID-19 across Europe”, as well as writing her first book Nationalist Opposition in Putin’s Russia (Manchester University Press).
