Silvia Renda
Silvia Renda (Erice, 1981) is a visual artist and editorial designer based in Barcelona. She holds a Master's degree in Communication Sciences (University of Bologna) and has trained in
Photography (IED, Rome and a study stay at St. Joost Academie, Breda), adopting a transdisciplinary approach in her projects.
Her work explores the relationship between images and collective imagery, questioning visual codes that perpetuate stereotypes and power dynamics. She investigates archetypes and mental images in relation to identity and belonging. Her practice materializes in artist books, installations, and expanded photography works incorporating sculpture or sound.
She has participated in residencies including La Escocesa and Santa Mònica (Barcelona), Es Far Cultural (Menorca), and Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio (Japan). Her installation Wherever. In the Beginning, It Was an Island was recently exhibited at Floating Projects (Hong Kong), in collaboration with nProjekt and Tangent Projects, as well as at Menorca Doc Fest. She has also presented her work at Castell de Montjuïc, Loop Festival, Encontros da Imagem (Portugal), and Fahrenheit 39 (Italy). Her publications are part of the MACBA Research
and Documentation Centre.
Silvia has explored the book as an artistic practice and has researched contemporary publishing, as well as its intersection with mediation, curating, and activism. She is the co-founder of Radial Radiant collective, with which she has created books focused on artistic processes, works between video and performance, library activations, and workshops. She has collaborated on cultural, educational, and publishing projects with GAM Palermo, Institut Français, Sicilia Queer Filmfest, and Mare Culturale Urbano (Italy), as well as CCCB, La Capella, Can Felipa, Blank Paper Escuela, Maria Inc., and PAAC (Spain).
