Silvia Fehrmann

Cultural journalist

A cultural journalist, Silvia Fehrmann presently heads the international DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Artists-in-Berlin programme. In her native Argentina she worked as a journalist, a cultural manager in the Goethe Institute, and lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires, after which she moved to New York as a correspondent for several Argentine media outlets and, eventually, to settle in Berlin. From 2008 to 2018 she worked at the House of World Cultures (HKW) in Berlin holding different leadership positions in the Communications Department and also as head of the Educational Programme. She also created the “Schools of Tomorrow” project, which seeks to explore through dialogue and artistic and educational practice how schools can become places for constructing desirable societies and transformative futures. She is a member of the Berlin Council for the Arts (Rat für die Künste), an independently elected body that represents the Berlin cultural scene, as well as speaking in various discussion programmes, for example that of the Working Group of International Residency Programmes (ADIR).
