Sherine Hafez
Professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies and Middle Eastern and Islamic Cultures at the University of California, Riverside
Her research interests focus on Islamic movements and gender studies in Arab, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures. She is the author of the award-winning book Women of the Midan, The Untold Stories of Egypt's Revolutionaries (Indiana University Press, 2019), which analyzes Egypt's revolutionary women and gendered bodily resistance in the Middle East. She has also published books such as An Islam of Her Own: reconsidering Religion and Secularism In Women's Islamic Movements (New York University Press, 2011). She has served as president of the Association of Middle East Anthopologists and is currently the president of the Association of Middle East Women's Studies. In 2023 she was awarded the Fred Halliday Prize.
