Sergi Herrando
Sergi Herrando is Doctor of Biological Sciences (University of Barcelona) and, since 2020, researcher at the CREAF. He is also Scientific Director of the Institut Català d’Ornitologia and Vice-President of the European Bird Census Council.
Throughout his career, he has worked to promote and coordinate large-scale, long-term bird monitoring projects with the aim of contributing to knowledge about changes in biodiversity and the factors responsible. These include the second European Breeding Bird Atlas (EBBA2), one of the largest citizen science projects ever carried out, covering over 10 million square kilometres, 50 countries and 120,000 participants.
He is part of the work team of the Observatori del Patrimoni Natural i la Biodiversitat de Catalunya and participates in various European research projects, the aim of which is to provide tools for monitoring and associated research that are useful for managing and conserving the natural environment in a context of global change.
