Scheherezade Pinilla Cañadas
Professor of History of Ideas
She is a professor of History of the Ideas at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She is also the author of the essay Las ciudades intermitentes. El heroísmo de los muchos en Balzac y Galdós (Prensas Universitarias de Zaragoza, 2014), arising from her doctoral thesis, and in 2016 she co-edited with José Luis Villacañas Berlanga La utopía de los libros. Política y filosofía en Miguel Abensour (Biblioteca Nueva). Throughout her career she has published numerous works on the figure and work of Jorge Semprún and is currently preparing a monograph on the author's literary meditation around life and death in the camps. In 2019 she organized the colloquium «Jorge Semprún. H(h)istory and M(m)emory of the 20th century», held at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, and in 2023, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, she directed the international colloquium «Jorge Semprún en el corazón del siglo (1923-2023)», to be held at El Museo del Prado, the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and the Paraninfo of the UCM on October 23 and 24.
