Sarah Van de Velde

Architect, landscape designer and projects leader at the Brussels-based Bureau Bas Smets, which is internationally recognised for its innovative integration of landscape, urbanism, and ecology. They are focused on how design can respond to the challenges of climate change, improving both the quality of urban life and environmental resilience. After studying at the Universities of Ghent and Leuven, Sarah Van de Velde currently leads the design and implementation monitoring of several projects in Belgium. Among the most notable works are the Loodswezensite in Antwerp, the renovation of squares in the centre of Aalst, and an art installation in WIELS. She has also worked on the development of new neighbourhoods, including Flora in Aalst, and Nieuw Zuid in Antwerp.
