Salwa L’Aouaji El Gharbi has a degree in Law, is head of the Department of Human Rights and Cultural Diversity at the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia and has worked as a consultant to the Secretariat for Immigration of the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia in the drafting of the Citizenship and Immigration Plan 2005–2008, as well as being executive coordinator of the Shared Public Culture Group in the drafting of the Document of Regulations for the National Immigration Agreement of Catalonia 2007–2008. She is president of TAMETTUT (Association of Amazigh Women for Culture and Development), a spokesperson on the Permanent Commission of the Social Council of the Catalan Language, and vice-president for the Diaspora in the Amazigh World Congress.
