Sadie Benning

Filmmaker

A lesbian experimental filmmaker who began making films at the age of fifteen, after being given a Fisher-Price Pixelvision toy camera. Her early films grew out of the doodles and personal texts she wrote down in her diary, capturing thoughts and images that revealed the longings and complexities of a developing identity. By playing with seduction and honesty, Benning uses the camera as a witness to her intimate relationships and an accomplice in her experimentation. Her most recent works go even further, playing with animation and installations.
