Roger Sauquet
With a degree and a PhD in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), he began to teach at the UPC Vallès School of Architecture (ETSAV) in 2005. As full-time associate professor, he is currently director of studies for the ETSAV master’s degree in Architecture and also coordinator of the CRAL (Research Centre and Services for Local Administration). Since 2009, he has been a member of the HABITAR Research Group and, as such, has published numerous articles in specialist journals, as well as co-authoring books including ReHabitar en nueve episodios (ReInhabit in Nine Episodes, 2010), Atlas del aprovechamiento arquitectónico (Atlas of Architectural Optimisation, 2018), and Barcelona come. La comida y el espacio público urbano (Barcelona Eats: Food and Urban Public Space, 2020). In addition to his academic work, he collaborates with other architects in the professional domain. He has received awards as well as being selected or named finalist for several prizes including those of the Catalan Architecture Exhibitions, Spanish Biennale of Architecture and Urban Planning (BIEAU), and Fostering Arts and Design (FAD). He also exhibited in the Venice Biennale in 2012 and 2016. In 2016, he received the FAD award, in the category of Ephemeral Work. His recent areas of research are optimisation of low urban density, adaptation to climate change, resilient urban design, and post-disaster recovery. He also works on an operational and advisory basis with the Bombers de la Generalitat (Catalan Government Fire Brigade) and the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia, as well as heading the social and ecological garden project Els horts de Puigvert, in Castellar del Vallès.
