Considered one of the best American writers today, Richard Ford has offered a social and moral chronicle of the United States throughout his extensive literary career. He is distinguished by an introspective look at the daily life and emotional landscapes of his characters, often set against the backdrop of deep America. He has published various novels that are part of the great tradition of contemporary American narrative, such as Canada (Ecco 2012) and the series dedicated to the fictional character Frank Bascombe: The Sportswriter (Vintage 1986), Independence Day (Knopf 1995), The Lay of the Land (Knopf 2006), Let Me Be Frank With You (Ecco 2014) and Be mine (Ecco 2023). He has written short stories compilled in Rock Springs (Atlantic Monthly Press 1987) and Sorry for Your Trouble (Ecco 2020), and the autobiography Between them. Remembering my parents (Ecco 2017), a tribute to the history of his parents and to mid-twentieth century America. His work as an editor includes an anthology of stories by Anton Chekhov The Essential Tales of Chekhov (Ecco 1999). His work has been recognised with numerous awards such as the Pulitzer Prize for Literature (1996), the PEN/Faulkner for Fiction (1996) and the Princess of Asturias Prize (2016).
