Renato Janine Ribeiro
Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at the University of São Paulo.
(Aracatuba, Brazil, 1949). Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at the University of São Paulo, he has been concerned to produce a political philosophy that would take into account the societies that give most importance to feeling in public life, for example that of Brazil and others of the so-called “Third World”. His main interests include the theatrical nature of political representation and the difficulties of constructing democracy in Brazil. In 1998 he received the National Order of Scientific Merit and, in 2009, the Rio Branco Order. Notable amongst his publications are A sociedade contra o social: o alto custo da vida pública no Brasil (Companhia das Letras e Fundação Biblioteca Nacional, 2000, winner of the Jabuti Essay Prize of 2001), and A universidade e a vida atual. Fellini não via filmes (Campus, 2003).
