Pim Martens
Professor of Sustainable Development and founder of the space for dissemination and critical thinking, AnimalWise
Pim Martens is chair of Sustainable Development at the University of Maastricht and studied mathematics and biological sciences. He is the founding director of the Graduate School of Sustainability Science at the same university, where he developed the programme in Sustainability Science and Policy. Throughout his career he has led projects related to the science of sustainability and education, focusing on the relationships between animals and humans, climate change and health. He is currently principal investigator for the Ethics of the Anthropocene programme at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and he develops projects on animal ethics, science and sustainability space for thought and dissemination, AnimalWise. His publications include Sustanimalism: A sustainable perspective on the relationship between human and non-human animals, as well as numerous articles on animal welfare in scientific journals.
