Philippe Walter

Philippe Walter is Director of the Centre de Recherche sur l'Imaginaire at the Université de Stendhal-III (Grenoble). He is Professor of medieval French literature and Director of the Department of Classics, Language and French Literature at the same university, which awarded him a doctorate honoris causa in 2008. He has also been visiting lecturer at universities in every continent. He is the founder and director of the "Moyen âge européen" collection ([European Middle Ages], Université de Grenoble) and has published over 34 books, including Christianity, the Origins of a Pagan Religion (2006) and Arthur, l'ours et le roi (Imago, 2002). He has overseen the editing and translation of well-known medieval texts such as Tristan et Iseut (Livre de Poche, 2000), Les Lais, de Marie de France (Gallimard, 2000) and the three volumes of the prose novel Le livre du Graal (Gallimard, 2001-2009).
