Peter Freund

Artist and writer

Peter Freund is a Barcelona-based artist and writer, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area (USA). His art practice ranges from experimental film and video installation to conceptual printmaking and performance art. His most recent artistic projects develop a conceptual use of digital code, investigating its logic of expediency and the parallax between surface and depth. As a writer he published four short articles with the Barcelona art journal A*Desk and co-authored a text with Eloi Puig and Vitor Magalhães, entitled “Il n’y a pas de rapport sémiotique: tres lecturas discontinuas,” which will appear in the forthcoming book, IN>TRA: Nuevas formas y prototipos en los procesos de investigación artística (Colección Co-edicions. El Cep i la Nansa, Vilanova i la Geltrú, 2019). In 2018-19 Freund had residencies with MACBA_CED and the Werner Thöni Artspace (Gràcia) and is now a visiting artist with the Faculty of Fine Arts (University of Barcelona). Freund is Professor of Art at Saint Mary’s College of California (USA), from which he is currently on an extended leave of absence.
