Pere Arús
Scientific director at the Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (Institute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology).
With an Agronomy Engineering degree from the University of Valencia (1974), he obtained a PhD in Genetics from the University of California, Davis in 1984. He was head of the Department of Plant Genetics at IRTA from 1988 to 2009 and, between 2007 and 2009, was head of the Cabrils centre of IRTA, of which he has been Scientific Director since 2009. He has also been deputy director of the Centre of Agrigenomic research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona since 2003. He specialises in plant genetics and genomics, and genetic improvement and development of crops. He is presently working on applications of molecular markers in genetics and improvement of crops including peaches, strawberries and melons.
