Parvati Nair

Director of the United Nations University Institute on Globalisation, Culture and Mobility in Barcelona (UNU – GCM), she is also Professor of Hispanic Cultural Studies and was director of the Centre for the Study of Migration at Queen Mary University of London. Her research is in the field of cultural studies, with a particular focus on theories and representation of migration, mobility, urban spaces, displacement, ethnicity and gender. She has written several books on these subjects, including Rumbo al norte: inmigración y movimientos culturales entre el Magreb y España (Heading North: Immigration and Cultural Movements between the Maghreb and Spain, Edicions Bellaterra, 2006) and A Different Light: The Photography of Sebastião Salgado (Duke University Press, 2011). She is also Principal Editor of Crossings: Journal of Migration and Culture.
