Neus Penalba

Neus Penalba is an essayist, university lecturer and literary critic. She is currently Assistant Professor of Iberian Literatures at Bryn Mawr College (Pennsylvania, United States). An authority on Rodoreda’s work, Penalba burst onto the Catalan intellectual scene with the publication of her book Fam als ulls, ciment a la boca. Una lectura de ‘La mort i la primavera’, de Mercè Rodoreda, for which she won the Joan Fuster Essay Prize, awarded by the Tres i Quatre publishing House within the framework of the October Prizes of 2023. She has taught Catalan literature at the University of Cambridge, three universities in France and in Quebec. She has also lectured in Literary Theory at Rovira i Virgili University. In her current research, she is studying imaginaries of extinction in contemporary literature and film. She contributes written pieces to Núvol magazine and to the Quadern supplement of El País newspaper.
