Miguel Beato del Rosal

(Salamanca, 1939) is a doctor and researcher specialising in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He is presently coordinator of the Programme of Genetic Regulation at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) of Barcelona. After obtaining his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona, he worked as a researcher at Columbia University in New York and spent a considerable part of his scientific career at the University of Marburg (Germany) at which he has a Chair and where he worked to establish the Institut für Molekularbiologie und Tumorforschung (Institute of Molecular Biology and Tumour Research – IMT) of which he was director from 1992 to 2000. An honorary member of the Catalan Biology Society and director of the CRG from 2000 to 2011, he was awarded the Narcís Monturiol Medal for Scientific Merit and the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George Cross) by Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia in 2006.
