Mateo Valero
Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center
Professor of Computer Architecture at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and founding director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), his main area of research is high-performance computing architecture, about which he has published more than 700 scientific articles. He has been received numerous prizes and awards for his work, among them the Eckert-Mauchly Award of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Computing Machinery (AVM), and the Seymour Cray, Charles Babbage, and Harry Goode awards, also given by the IEEE. Moreover, he has received the Julio Rey Pastor and Leonardo Torres Quevedo national research awards. In 2008, he was selected as one of the 25 most influential researchers in domain of information and communication technologies for the period from 1983 to 2008. In 2008 he was honoured with the Decoration of the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest distinction granted by the Mexican government.
