Martha Nussbaum is one of today’s most outstanding thinkers in the domains of philosophy and the social sciences. Her works have particularly focused on ancient philosophy, political philosophy, ethics and law, as well as study of the emotions. She is presently Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics, appointed in the Philosophy Department, Law School, and Divinity School at the University of Chicago. She has received twenty-five honorary degrees from universities in the United States, Asia and Europe.
