Marta Ill-Raga

Marta Ill-Raga holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghent. Her career as an academic and activist has been marked by a sustained interest in the politics and consequences of accumulation by dispossession in urban settings, and in social property relations. Her doctoral research offers an ethnographic examination of the dynamics of conflict between landlords and tenants in Barcelona, through her involvement with the Sindicat de Llogateres de Barcelona (Barcelona Tenants’ Syndicate), of which she was one of the first members. Her research was part of the ERC-funded project Property and Democratic Citizenship, which aims to dissect the structure of residential land ownership regimes in Western democracies. She is currently an instructor at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) and a collaborating researcher at the IDRA Barcelona Urban Research Institute.
