Maria Pia Cosma

ICREA research professor at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).

PhD in Cellular and Molecular Genetics from the University of Naples Federico II. After working as a researcher for seven years at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Naples, she was appointed as an ICREA researcher at the Barcelona Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), where she heads a research group working on the mechanisms that govern the reprogramming of adult stem cells in order to determine their capacity for regenerating damaged tissue and organs. At present she has a grant from the European Research Council (ERC) and is a member of the European Board of Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO). Pia Cosma’s research, which is recognised in the international sphere, has been awarded prizes including the Marie Curie Excellence Award and the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. In Catalonia, she was awarded the “City of Barcelona” prize in the category of Life Sciences in 2015 and she has also been a finalist for the “Vanguardia de la Ciencia” prize.
