Maria José Rementeria

Maria José Rementeria is team leader of Social Link Analytics at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). She graduated in Physical Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with a degree in Artificial Intelligence. María José has developed her professional career in industry, working for big technology companies such as EADS-CASA (now Grupo Airbus), Telefónica and the European Space Agency (ESA). Currently, at BSC, she leads a research unit that works on misinformation, ethics in artificial intelligence, and the social impact of scientific projects. She also leads the Bioinfo4Women programme in the department of Life Sciences, which, as well as promoting women in scientific careers, develops a line of research on gender biases in health and artificial intelligence.

She is one of the founder members of the organization Women in Aerospace Europe-Madrid (WIA-Europe LG Madrid) and forms part of the Ethics Committee of the European TechEthos project and the working group of the Women, Science and Innovation Observatory (OMCI) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, as well as collaborating with the Scientific and Technological Assessment Unit (STOA) of the European Parliament on advising and analysing biases in AI-based systems.
