A scriptwriter and film director, he directed Petit indi (Little Indian, 2009), while his feature film debut in 1991 was with the film El cielo sube (The Sky Rises). A subsequently made film L’arbre de les cireres (The Tree of Cherries, 1998) was awarded the City of Barcelona Prize. He began to receive international attention after the premiere of his film Pau i el seu germà (Pau and His Brother, 2001), winner of the Ondas Best Director Prize, the National Cinema Prize of the Generalitat Government of Catalonia and candidate for the Golden Palm Prize at the Cannes Festival. He subsequently made Les mans buides (Empty Hands, 2003), Dies d’agost (August Days, 2006) and Petit indi (2009).
