Makarand R. Paranjape

Makarand Paranjape received his PhD in English from the University of Illinois, where he was an assistant professor (1980-1986). He worked as associate professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi (1994-1999), and is now a professor at the Jawalharlal Nuhru University in the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies. He is honorary director of the Samvad India Foundation, a non-profit association that aims to promote inter-cultural dialogue.

His literary production embraces genres such as essay: Mysticism in Indian English Poetry (1988), Decolonization and Development: Hind Svaraj Revisioned (1993) and Towards a Poetics of the Indian English Novel (2000); poetry: The Serene Flame (1991), Playing the Dark God (1992) and Used Book (2001); and the novel: This Time I Promise It'll Be Different: Short Stories (1994) and The Narrator: A Novel (1995).

He is the editor and founder of Evam: Forum on Indian Representations, a multidisciplinary and international publication; he is also the general editor of a series of reprints of rare and out-of-print Indian titles, published by the Sahitya Akademi.
