Lynne Ramsay

Lynne Ramsay was born on December 5, 1969, in Glasgow, UK. She is a film director, writer, producer, and cinematographer known for "You Were Never Really Here" (2017), starring Joaquin Phoenix and "We Need to Talk About Kevin" (2011), starring Tilda Swinton, and "Ratcatcher" (1999). Ramsay studied photography at the Glasgow School of Art and cinematography and direction at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, England. In 1996 her debut short film "Small Deaths" won the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Prix du Jury. Following graduation, Ramsay debuted with her feature film “Ratcatcher” (1999), which screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Since then, she has written and directed short films and feature films that explore themes ranging from grief, violence, and trauma to the frailty of human connection and the shadowy recesses of the human psyche. Currently, she's working on "Die, My Love", an adaptation of Ariana Harwicz's novel, which will be produced by Martin Scorsese.
