Lluís Montoliu

PhD in Biological Sciences and president of the Ethics Committee at the CSIC

Lluís Montoliu studied biology, was trained in genetics and works in biotechnology. He is a researcher at the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and at the Rare Diseases Networking Biomedical Research Centre at the National Centre for Biotechnology in Madrid. Throughout his career he has worked with genetically modified organisms, and he was a pioneer in the introduction and dissemination in Spain of the CRISPR technique for gene editing in animals. He has also been an honorary professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid for more than 20 years. He is currently the president of the Ethics Committee of the CSIC and a member of the ethics panel of the European Research Council in Brussels. He has published more than 100 scientific articles, numerous popular texts, and several books on genetics and albinism, in a professional and research career that has earned him multiple awards.
