Lluís Llach

A member of the Setze Jutges (1967), a group of Catalan singers founded in 1961 to promote the Nova Cançó -‘New Song'- and the normal use of Catalan in music, he is one of the most popular figures in Catalan song. He recorded his first album, Els èxits de Lluís Llach , in 1968, and to date has released more than thirty; the most recent, Poetes (2004), is based on poems by Miquel Martí i Pol, Màrius Torres, Joan Fuster, Joan Salvat-Papasseit and Cavafy, among others. He also wrote the music for the films La forja de un rebelde [The Forge of a Rebel] (1990) by Mario Camus, and The Children Thief (1991) by Christian de Calonge. He was awarded the Premio Nacional de Música prize in 1993.
